(RACE RECAP) September 3rd, 2022 Eve Of Destruction

Another huge crowd was in attendance for a Labor Day weekend Eve of Destruction at Elko Speedway.

The NASCAR sanctioned Late Models raced two 25 lap feature events on Saturday night. The first race was won by former Thunder Car Champion #32 Jeremy Wolff from Chaska (MN), he started third row outside, worked his way up to the front and took the lead on lap 10.

“When I first tried to pass Blohm on the outside I couldn’t get it done,” said Wolff post-race. “I got behind him and my thought was to just ride behind him and see if his car goes away, but then the caution came out, I got to start next to him and I over drove the hell out of it going into turn 1 and it stuck, so that was really cool.” Wolff then held on to the lead and won the race to the finish line by 0.563 seconds. It was the first Late Model win of his career at Elko Speedway.

Bryce Blohm #37 led eight laps and finished second, #31 Ryan Varner was third, point leader #72 Jacob Goede fourth and #52 Chad Walen fifth of the 20 cars entered. Fast-timer #19 Jake Ryan finished 7th, Bryan Wrolstad #13 led three laps and finished 8th.

The second Late Model feature was won by #52 Chad Walen from Prior Lake (MN). Walen started the race in the third row, took the lead on lap 11 and held on to win by 0.492 seconds, it was his second feature win of the season at ELKO. Jake Ryan #19 finished second, #72 Jacob Goede was third, #7 Jackson Lewis led numerous laps and finished 4th and #6 Owin Giles was fifth of the 20 cars entered.

Jacob Goede now has a 29 point lead over Chad Walen in the race for the 2022 Late Model Championship.

The NASCAR sanctioned Thunder Cars raced two 20 lap feature events during Eve of Destruction at Elko Speedway on Saturday night. The first race was won by #07 Dillon Sellner from Randolph (MN). Sellner led every lap even through numerous cautions and restarts, it was the sixth win of the season for Sellner. Fast-timer #3 Conrad Jorgenson finished in second place, he was 1.356 seconds behind Sellner. Brent Kane #99 was third, #25 Eric Campbell fourth and #9 Adam Wiebusch was fifth of the 13 cars entered.

The second Thunder Car feature event was won by #09 Matt Wiebusch from Lonsdale (MN). Wiebusch led every lap and won by 1.482 seconds, it was his second win of the year in consecutive race weeks at ELKO. Taylor Goldman #8 finished a career high Thunder Car finish of second place, #07 Dillon Sellner was third, #3 Conrad Jorgenson fourth and #99 Brent Kane fifth of the 12 cars entered.

Dillon Sellner now has a 24 point lead over Conrad Jorgenson in the race for the 2022 Thunder Car Championship.

The INEX sanctioned Great North Legends raced two 20 lap feature events during Eve of Destruction at Elko Speedway. The first race was won by #18 Tyler Ledbetter from Oak Park Heights (MN), Ledbetter took the lead on lap two and held on to win by 0.144 seconds at the finish line, it was his first career win and the first time he has raced this specific car. Veteran driver #13 Tim Brockhouse challenged for the lead on the Green-White-Checkered finish but came up just short in second, Jackson Lewis #44 was third, #75 Baiden Heskett fourth and #3 Dirk Henry was fifth. Mark Anderson Jr #8 led the first lap and finished 10th, fast-qualifier #12 Ayrton Brockhouse did not finish the race and was scored in 16th.

The second Legends feature event at ELKO had defending Champion #87 Robby Carter taking the lead on lap three and motoring along to win his first race of the year, he won by 0.219 seconds. Dirk Henry #3 was second, #75 Baiden Heskett was third, #44 Jackson Lewis fourth and point leader #8 Colin Stocker was fifth of the 17 cars entered. Blake Haynes #9 led the first couple laps and finished 11th.

Colin Stocker now has a 26 point lead over Baiden Heskett in the race for the 2022 Legends division Championship at Elko Speedway.

The NASCAR sanctioned Power Stocks raced two 20 lap feature events during Eve of Destruction at ELKO on Saturday night. The first race was won by former Champion #62 Tom Doten from St Paul (MN). Doten took the lead on lap two and held back a couple strong challenges late to win by 0.23 seconds at the finish line, it was the second win of the season for Doten. Mike Stoer #08 raced up from his 7th row starting position to finish second, #56 Paul Hamilton was third, #13 Matt Frye fourth and point leader #88 Nick Oxborough fifth of the 18 cars entered. Fast-timer #66 Joe Prusak was sixth, Brock Westermayer led a lap and finished 12th.

The second Power Stock feature was won by #57 Jesse Fischer from Eagan (MN), Fischer took the lead on lap four and then won by 1.699 seconds, it was his fifth win of the season at Elko Speedway. Nick Oxborough #88 moved up from the fourth row to finish second, #66 Joe Prusak was third, #56 Paul Hamilton fourth and #08 Mike Stoer fifth of the eighteen cars entered. Brock Westermayer led three laps and finished 14th.

Nick Oxborough now has a 32 point lead over Mike Stoer in the race for the 2022 Power Stock division Championship at ELKO.

The INEX sanctioned Bando’s, for kids ages 8-15, raced two 12 lap feature events on the ¼ mile flat track on Elko Speedway’s infield. The first race was won by #10 Danny Mann from Elko (MN), he took the lead on lap two and held on through a couple cautions to win by 0.565 seconds, it was the 8th win of the season for Mann. Mark Anderson Jr #57 finished second, #18 Leighton Rose started at the back because of a problem with his bumper, but rebounded to finish 3rd, #27 Riley Godwin led the first lap and finished fourth and #56 Clayton Dorner was fifth of the 10 cars entered.

The second Bando feature was won by #57 Mark Anderson Jr after a hard fought battle with #10 Danny Mann, the duo swapped the top spot numerous times during the race including on the last lap. Anderson just edged Mann by 0.14 seconds as they were leaning on each other at the finish line. It was the fifth win of the season for Mark Anderson Jr. Mann finished second, Jake Lipinski #32 was third, #89 Mackaydee Konop fourth and #56 Clayton Dorner fifth, Ayden Brockhouse #13 led the opening lap and finished 6th of the 10 cars entered.

Danny Mann now has a 13 point lead over Mark Anderson Jr in the race for the 2022 Bando Championship at Elko Speedway.

Nathan Salden from Waconia (MN) won the spectator drags in his 2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1.

Monster Trucks named Boss Gator and Lone Wolf entertained the crowd with car crunching destruction, the Globe of Death motorcycle show performed on the concourse, School busses raced and ATV Big Air thrilled the crowd with high flying action.

Up next at Elko Speedway is another Eve of Destruction on Saturday September 10th. All 5 divisions of cars will race with a special memorial race in both the Thunder Cars and Late Models.
