July 26th, 2014: NASCAR with HAIRBALL

Elko, MN – July 26, 2014

By Jason D Searcy

Joey Miller from Lakeville (MN) won the NASCAR Whelen All American Series MN Corn Growers Super Late Model feature event, he held off the quickly approaching Matt Goede car from New Germany (MN) by only .094 seconds at the finish line.

Greg Borchardt and Paul Paine both lead early in the 40 lap race but Miller passed both of them and took the lead before the half way mark, even though he started 7th in the 18 car field.

Joey has had success racing in the ASA, ARCA and even the NASCAR Truck series in the past, but winning at his home track is special, “this is the first win I’ve ever had with my two year old daughter here, so that is pretty cool.”

An added incentive was the extra $1,000 check presented to him in victory lane donated by the family of long time Elko Speedway race fan Jerry Enfield, who recently passed away.  “I really want to thank them for that,” said Miller “anyone who helps out racing like that and gives money to the local racers, so they can keep on racing is very special.”

In the point standings Jacob Goede from Carver (MN) leads by only 5 points over both Chad Walen and Paul Paine in the race for the Championship.

Four time Big 8 Champion Doug Brown from Prior Lake (MN) took advantage of his front row starting position and got his first win of the season on Saturday night, he finished ahead of last weeks winner Joe Neisius for the victory.   Six different drivers have won a Big 8 race so far this year at Elko Speedway.

Defending Champion Chris Marek from Lakeville (MN) finished 6th still has a narrow 6 point lead over 16 year old Cole Anderson from Northfield (MN) in the standings.

Jeremy Wolff from Chaska (MN) won his second straight Genz-Ryan Thunder Car feature event at Elko Speedway.  He started up front and then held off a hard charging Conrad Jorgenson in a side-by-side battle for the win in this 18 car field.

With the second place finish Jorgenson from Lakeville (MN) still holds a 14 point lead over Wolff in the standings.

Tim Brockhouse from Prior Lake (MN) won Great North Legends 20 lap main event.  Brockhouse started 6th in the 19 car field and worked his way to the front eventually holding off Shon Jacobsen from Oak Grove (MN) for the win.

Derek Lemke from Shakopee (MN) finished 15th after a car fire ended his night early.  Lemke still leads the point standings over Jacobsen but, the margin has narrowed to just 9 points.

The Pepsi Power Stock main event was won by Nick Oxborough from Savage (MN) who won his 3rd feature of the year in just his Rookie season.  Oxborough edged last weeks winner Paul Neisius by only .273 seconds at the finish line in this 19 car field.

Oxborough also leads in the point standings, he has a 15 point advantage over fellow Rookie Grant Brown who hales from Prior Lake (MN).

Michael Weiss from Bloomington (MN) won the 15 lap Mini Stock main event at Elko Speedway finishing just ahead of Justin Schelitzche from Lester (MN).

Weiss became the 6th different winner in 7 races so far this year.  The only two time winner is Brian Adams from Norwood (MN) who leads in points by 24 markers over Michael Wachs Jr from Shakopee (MN).

Owen Giles from New Market (MN) won the Bandoleros main event, this is his second straight win at Elko Speedway.

Brody Wulf from Lakeville (MN) now leads in the point standings by 4 points over Cole Klein who had mechanical problems and finished 7th.
