Independence Day Weekend Winners

Elko, MN – July 6, 2013

Matthew Goede and his crew overcame a day filled with tire and electrical problems to come back and win the 40 lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Model feature at Elko Speedway on Saturday night. They had to run the entire main event on a hot night without any brake or cooling fans.

Goede from New Germany (MN) started second row inside but had to catch Joey Garofalo who jumped out to a big lead early in the race. After passing Garofalo and taking the lead, point leader Adam Royle was pressuring Goede for the top spot. “I was mainly making sure I wasn’t making any mistakes, to make sure I ran Adam tight enough and not give him too much room, luckily we had just enough” said Goede.

Jon Lemke from Shakopee (MN) got his season back on track with his second win of the year in the BIG 8 division. Lemke beat Nicholas Beaver by .625 at the line after a good battle during the 25 lap main event. In the point standings Chris Marek leads Dylan Moore by just one point with Beaver and Lemke close behind.

Brent Kane from Lonsdale (MN) extended his point lead with an emotional win in the 25 lap Thunder Car main event. The Raising Kane race team has put in many long hours in the shop after being involved in a wreck a couple weeks ago. “It’s just a great night,” said Kane “to go from totaling the primary race car and then two weeks later in victory lane, it can’t get any better than this.”

Kane increases the point lead with his second victory of the year, he now leads Daryl Blohm and Ted Reuvers by 15 points in the championship standings.

Taylor Goldman from Minnetonka (MN) won her second Power Stock feature of the season by holding off Paul Hamilton by .378 at the finish line. Three different drivers now have two victories each in this evenly matched division, John Lebens and Paul Hamilton are the other two time winners and they are currently one and two in the point standings.

Sixteen year old Michael Ostdiek from Lakeville (MN) won his first feature of the season in the Great North Legends, it was a tight finish with Ostdiek edging Derek Lemke by only .106 at the finish. Ostdiek now has an eleven point lead over Shon Jacobsen and Ted Hough in the standings.

Jack Purcell from Bloomington (MN) won the Mini Stock main event and is looking to defend his point championship. He currently has a five point lead over John Vandenheuvel in the standings.

Cole Klein from Rogers (MN) won the Bandoleros main event, he trails Jared Duda by eleven points in the championship standings.

Next up at Elko Speedway is NASCAR Whelen All American series racing on Saturday July 13th with six divisions of cars plus free carnival rides, the fur-ever wild life wolf exhibit, the Dodge Challenger club and a 1/4 midget exhibition race, racing begins at 7pm.
