Elko Speedway Champions 2013

September 14, 2013 – Elko, MN

Due to a persistent light rain NASCAR Whelen All American series racing was washed out at Elko Speedway Saturday night. Four race teams celebrated a new 2013 point title at Champions bar when the races were finally called of.

Adam Royle from Lonsdale (MN) won his first Elko Speedway Super Late Model Championship. “My crew is the key to this,” said Royle “you have to be good 24 times per year and we only dropped out of one race this whole season.” Royle ended up winning 6 races and beat out 9 time Champion Donny Reuvers by 41 points for the title.

Brent Kane from Lonsdale (MN) won his third Elko Speedway Thunder Car Championship. “Its been a dream season,” said Kane “we didn’t crash and the worst finish we had all year was fourth. I kept my nose out of trouble and we kept up on maintenance, I tried to be clean all year long.” Kane won 7 Thunder Car features and he finished ahead of Ted Reuvers by 53 points to win the points Championship.

John Lebens from Shakopee (MN) won the Power Stock Championship for the second year in a row at Elko Speedway. “This year everybody was faster,” said Lebens “I got more heat wins than last year, not as many features but that is because everybody in the division stepped their game up.” Lebens won four main events and edged Tom Doten by just two points in the standings, Taylor Goldman was third but only four points back from Lebens in the closest point race in recent history at Elko Speedway.

Chris Marek from Lakeville (MN) won the BIG 8 title. “We kept it clean all year,” said Marek “no bad nights, you need to run the best you can every time you hit the track.” The BIG 8 division had eight different winners this year “the class had more competition this year, more cars and some guys were faster,” said Marek “everyone is real tight and close, anyone can win on a given night.” Marek won four feature events in 2013 and he edged Dylan Moore by 23 points for the title.

The point title is yet to be determined in the Bandolero, Great North Legends and the Mini Stock divisions. For full season points and results go to www.elkospeedway.com and click RESULTS.
