Aug 3, 2013 – Elko, MN

A huge crowd enjoyed perfect weather and a full night of Racing and Wrecking during the Eve of Destruction event at Elko Speedway on Saturday night.

Adam Royle from Lonsdale (MN) won the first NASCAR Whelen All American Series Super Late Model feature event. Royle started in the first row in front of the full field of 23 cars taking the green flag. He won this caution free 30 lap race by only .326 seconds over Matt Goede with an average speed of 94.021mph.

Veteran drivers Mark Lamoreaux and Bryan Roach lead the early portions of the 30 lap second feature in the Super Late Model division. Matt Goede from New Germany (MN) started third row inside and worked his way to the lead with ten laps remaining. The race was extremely tight for the runner up position as Roach edged a hard charging Adam Royle by .011 seconds at the finish line.

Nine time Elko Speedway Champion Donny Reuvers finished a consistent third and fourth in the two features and now trails Adam Royle by a slim 13 point margin in the point standings.

Travis Stanley from Prior Lake (MN) won the first of two Big 8 features by passing Dylan Moore on the high side after a restart mid-race. He then held on for the win after another similar restart, “it feels great to win,” said Stanley “it never gets old.”

Chris Marek from Lakeville (MN) finished runner up in the first 20 lap Big 8 feature after starting fifth row inside, he then started up front and won the second feature by .499 seconds over Dylan Moore. Marek holds a very slight two point advantage over Moore in the point standings with Jon Lemke only 15 points out of the lead.

Devin Schmidt from Belle Plaine (MN) raced hard with James Lindgren before taking the lead and holding off the entire 19 car field for the win in the Thunder Car division. “A lot of fun, its our first win in almost two years,” said Schmidt in victory lane.

Brent Kane from Lonsdale (MN) bested his “Raising Kane” teammate Scott King for the win in the second Thunder Car 20 lap main event. Kane now extends his point lead to 31 points over Daryl Blohm in the standings.

Brandon Petersen from Faribault (MN) won his first ever Power Stock main event in just his fifth week of racing. “It was an exciting race,” said Petersen “the car was a little loose but fast.” Petersen is racing in memory of his step father Scott Kingery who recently died of cancer. “I mainly tried to race the track and race for my step-dad,” said Petersen who is planning on competing for a “rookie of the year” title at Elko Speedway next year.

John Lebens finished second to Petersen and extended his lead to 16 points in the standings over last weeks winner Tom Doten who finished fifth.

Ted Hough and James Wenzel tangled while fighting for the top spot and opened up the door for Michael Ostdiek from Lakeville (MN) win his fourth consecutive Great North Legends feature at Elko Speedway. Hough fought back for a 12th place finish and Wenzel tagged the wall and finished 19th. Ostdiek now holds a 31 point lead over Shon Jacobsen in the standings.
