By Jason D Searcy

August 30, 2014 – Elko, MN

Jacob Goede from Carver (MN) won his 6th feature event in the NASCAR Whelen All American series MN Corn Growers Super Late Model division at Elko Speedway.

Goede started third row outside and worked his way to the top spot by lap 16 of the 40 lap main event “I used the bottom, everyone can skate around in the second groove but we worked on our car to get around on the bottom,” said Goede “it’s good down there and it’s good to be in victory lane.”

Matt Goede finished second to his older brother with former Champion Dan Fredrickson taking home the third spot. Nine time Champion Donny Reuvers made his first start of the season, he started in the 8th row and moved up to finish in the 9th position.

Jacob Goede still leads in the points with Paul Paine in second and Matt Goede moving up to third in the standings. Only two points paying race nights remain in the Super Late Model division.

Chris Marek from Lakeville (MN) won for the fifth time this season in the Big 8 division. Marek started on the pole, took the lead and never looked back winning the 25 lap main event by 2.229 seconds over Michael Beamish with Jon Lemke finishing third.

Cole Anderson had a rough night finishing 10th in the feature, he has been runner-up in the point standings for much of the year but now he has slid back to the third position. Marek now leads Jon Lemke by 15 and Anderson is 22 points behind in the race for the Championship.

Twenty cars started the Genz-Ryan Thunder Car main event and it was an eventful race. Tony Holm lead the race early then Conrad Jorgenson took the lead on lap 6. Ted Reuvers came from his fourth row starting position to move up to 2nd, then with four laps to go Reuvers and Jorgenson had contact sending both of them to the back of the pack. Defending Champion Brent Kane capitalized on the situation and then held off Jeremy Wolff and Eric Campbell for the win.

Jorgenson came back to finish 10th in the 20 car field, he holds onto the point lead by 39 over Wolff with Kane moving to the third position in points.

Robby Carter from Prior Lake (MN) won the 20 lap Great North Legends National Qualifier race at Elko Speedway, it was his second win of the season. Michael Hanson and Dylan Warner battled side by side for the lead early in the race before Derek Lemke took over the top spot at lap 10. Carter took the lead from Lemke with 4 laps to go and held on to win by only .226 seconds at the finish line.

By winning a National Qualifier event Carter will get a provisional starting spot at the Legends National Championship Main Event on October 18th at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Derek Lemke continues to lead in the standings, he has a 23 point lead over Brady Fox-Rhode with his father Jon Lemke moving to the third position. The Great North Legends will continue to have points paying races until September 27th, the final race night of the season.

Tom Doten from St Paul (MN) won his second consecutive Pepsi Power Stock main event. 24 cars filled Elko Speedway with action, it was Shaun Prins who took the early lead and Doten moved up to the top spot by lap 7 of the 20 lap race. Tom Quade finished second with Dusty Mann coming home third.

Nick Oxborough finished 5th, one spot ahead of Grant Brown. Oxborough is now 13 points ahead of Brown in the race for the Championship but Doten continues to close in, he is now only 20 points behind with two points paying race nights remaining for the Power Stock division.

Brian Adams from Shakopee (MN) lead flag to flag in the 15 lap Mini Stock main event for his 6th win of the year. The race night was delayed because of rain before this race but the front wheel drive 4 cyl Mini-Stock cars seemed to have no trouble with the damp conditions. Brandon Plekkenpol finished 2nd with Ridge Oien getting third.

Adams extended his lead to 43 points over Michael Wachs Jr who finished fifth in the feature event, the Mini Stocks will also have their Championship night on September 27th.

Owen Giles from New Market (MN) won the Bandoleros feature event. Giles now also took over the lead in the standings by 2 points over Brody Wulf in the race for the Championship.
