2014 Champions Banquet

October 18, 2014 – Elko, MN

The 2014 race season was celebrated during the Champions Banquet at Elko Speedway on Saturday night October 18th.

The evening began with the 2013 Champions being presented with their individual banners that have been on display for the past year in Champions event center.

The UNOH Youth Achievement Award was then presented to 14 yr old driver Grant Brown. Grant finished second in the Pepsi Power Stock division Championship in his Rookie year of racing at Elko Speedway.

The top ten point finishers in each division were then recognized:

MN Corn Growers Super Late Models- Jacob Goede
Big 8- Chris Marek
Genz-Ryan Thunder Cars- Conrad Jorgenson
Great North Legends- Derek Lemke
Pepsi Power Stocks- Nick Oxborough
Mini Stocks- Brian Adams
Bandoleros- Brody Wulf

Awards were given out to the driver in each division with the most wins:

MN Corn Growers Super Late Models- Jacob Goede (7)
Big 8- Chris Marek (5)
Genz-Ryan Thunder Cars- Brent Kane (8)
Great North Legends- Tim Brockhouse (4)
Pepsi Power Stocks- Nick Oxborough (3)
Mini Stocks- Brian Adams (6)

The Brothers Jorgenson Racing “Rookies of the Year” were named:

MN Corn Growers Super Late Models- Kyle Hanson
Big 8- Cole Anderson
Genz-Ryan Thunder Cars- Jack Purcell
Great North Legends- Jared Duda
Pepsi Power Stocks- Nick Oxborough
Mini Stocks- Collin Neisus

The Fastest Lap award was given to the drivers with the most “fast times” in Qualifying:

MN Corn Growers Super Late Models- Jacob Goede (6)
Big 8- Cole Anderson (4)

Many prizes from loyal Elko Speedway sponsors were dispersed to people in attendance also the Minnesota Corn Growers $5,000 point fund was awarded to drivers in the Super Late Model division.

The Most Improved Driver award was given to Brady Fox-Rhode. Brady scored his first win at Elko Speedway in 2014 and he moved up from seventh place in points last year to runner-up in points this year.

The 2014 Elko Speedway Driver of the Year award was presented to Super Late Model Champion Jacob Goede. After spending the last decade racing touring series all over the Midwest Jacob raced exclusively at Elko Speedway in 2014 and scored his first Championship. “The decision to come back home to Elko was easy,” said Goede “racing isn’t as much fun if you’re not doing it with the people you love.”

To conclude the program the Nick Beaver race team was presented with the Elko Speedway Goodwill award. Nick and his crew displayed true sportsmanship when they befriended Rylie, a local autistic girl. The Beaver team made her part of their crew and shared their success on the track with her and her family by giving them the trophy after winning a race. That gesture and continued support is cherished by Rylie and her family. The entire room stood in appreciation when the Beaver race team, along with Riley, all came on stage to accept the award.

Elko Speedway wants to say THANK YOU to all the fans, drivers and sponsors who supported the track this year. 2015 marks the 50th year of racing at Elko Speedway, the long history of the track will be celebrated throughout the season.
