September 27, 2018: Taylor Goldman Highlight

By Jason D Searcy

September 27, 2018 – Elko, MN

This Saturday night #8 Taylor Goldman from Minnetonka (MN) is set to become the first-ever female point champion in the 53-year history of Elko Speedway. Taylor, better known at ELKO! as “Rollergirl” is the current point leader in the Pepsi Powerstock division, she has a 93 point lead over #08 Michael Stoer from Prior Lake (MN) in the standings going into the final race night on Saturday, September 29th. The realistic maximum number of points a driver can earn on one race night is 150 points, so if she crosses the finish line in qualifying and either of the two feature events in her division she will have made history and will soon have a Championship banner with her photo on it hanging at Elko Speedway.

Taylor Goldman got her nick-name during her first season racing at Raceway Park in Shakopee (MN), it has nothing to do with roller skating. It came about when she started racing in 2006, on her third-night racing she rolled her race car. Two weeks later Taylor won her first ever heat race and another racer Dean Cornelius was congratulating Taylor and her dad in the pits, after he took off on his scooter he yelled back “See ya later Rollergirl,” and name just kind of stuck from there.

Soon thereafter Rollergirl started racing at Elko Speedway. “I started racing at Elko in 2008 halfway through the season and I instantly fell in love,” said Goldman. Taylor has always had success at ELKO!, she has finished TOP 5 in points every year she has raced, she even finished second place in points in 2011.

Taylor has always been a crowd favorite at ELKO! and has won many races at the track including four feature wins in 2017, she also co-leads the division with four feature wins this year at Elko Speedway. The key to her points success is that she has stayed away from the big wrecks and has finished in the Top 10 in every race except one this entire year. Another female driver Julie Jorgenson, a close friend of Goldman, has also had a great year racing at Elko Speedway in the Power Stock division, Julie has four wins as well but has missed a couple race nights, she is currently 7th in the point standings.

Taylor Goldman has been reluctant to talk about the possibility of winning a title this year, she also admits to being nervous and just wants to stay in the positive mindset. She attributes her success in 2018 to having a lot of help and to having become a better driver with her over decades’ worth of experience.

“I want to succeed not only for myself, but my team and especially my dad” said Goldman. We all will find out this Saturday night if “Rollergirl” will not only have success, but also make history at Elko Speedway.

Champions will also be crowned in the Eternity homes Great North Legends where #75 Baiden Heskett has a 269 point lead and the Brocks Flooring Bandoleros where #8 Colin Stocker has a 7 point lead over #99 Max Mabee on Saturday, September 29th.

The season finale Eve of Destruction at Elko Speedway is Saturday, September 29th with racing in the Power Stocks, Great North Legends and Bandolero’s divisions. Also, a huge fireworks show, The Little Red Beer Hauler Jet Truck, Figure 8 trailer race, burnout contest, School Bus races and much more.
