Goede, Reuvers split twins at Elko Speedway

Attention: open in a new window.

94-3474

By Jim Burns

Elko, MN September 4, 2010--New Germany's Matt Goede and Dundas' Donny Reuvers made similar charges through the field and both drivers held off Dan Fredrickson as the tandem split twin 40 lap Super Late Model features highlighting the NASCAR Whelen All American Series action Saturday September 4, 2010 at Elko Speedway.

In the first 40 lapper for the Super Late Models, Bryan Roach rolled around pole sitter Billy Mohn to take the early 94-3496lead with Chad Walen, Steve Anderson and Brian Johnson in tow. As Roach built his advantage over Mohn, Johnson and Matt Goede slid under Anderson before the caution flew on lap nine as Bret Nordine and Tony Holm locked horns in turn three. On the restart, Roach again sped to the the lead, with Walen ducking under Mohn prior to the second caution flying as Michael Dick went for a solo spin in turn two on lap 11. On the second restart, Goede and Fredrickson began their charges as the tandem worked around Mohn for third and fourth, with Adam Royle also on the move into the top five.

As the action remained green, Goede ducked under Walen for second on lap 17 and with Mohn dropping to the pits with94-3471 apparent mechanical issues, Fredrickson and Royle continued Walen's slide. By lap 25, Goede had reeled in Roach and finally took the point on lap 29. Over the final 11 laps, Goede edged away to the win, with Fredrickson bypassing Roach for second, with Royle fourth and Brian Johnson holding on for fifth.

In the second 40 lapper, Roach and Walen started on the front row and again Roach roared to the point with Goede, Royle and Donny Reuvers quickly dropping Walen to fifth. By lap 8, Goede had taken the lead from Roach and looked to be headed for a clean sweep of the action but a 12th lap caution for Mark Lamoreaux's damaged ride bunched the field up for a restart. On the restart, Goede took the lead 94-3494again, but Roach slowed the outside line as his mount didn't respond allowing Brian Johnson, Reuvers and Fredrickson to move by on the inside. With Goede continuing to ride point over the 22 car field, Reuvers made a steady charge to second before the caution flew a final time on lap 29 for a stalled Rick Burns. On the final restart, Reuvers ducked under Goede for the point and pulled away to the win, with Fredrickson and Royle working by Goede for second and third with Johnson earning his second top five of the night.

In the Big 8's, Jon Lemke worked around Ryan Kamish for the early lead with Dylan Moore mounting an early charge before a sixth lap caution stalled the action. On the restart, Moore worked the high line to bypass Lemke for the point with Lawrence Berthiaume and Doug Brown battling for third, with Berthiaume able to secure the position by lap 14. 94-3491Over the final 11 laps, Moore drove a steady line to earn his third win in the last five starts, with Lemke, Berthiaume, Nick Barstad and Travis Stanley earning top fives.

In the Genz-Ryan Thunder Cars, the Championship point battle between Brent Kane and Jack Paulson was a mere two point differential as the night began, but it was Conrad Jorgenson's night to shine as the veteran took the lead on the opening drop of the green and led the entire 20 lap distance to earn the win, with Kane charging home second to edge Mike Homan who had his best run of the season to finish third, with Ted Reuvers and Kyle Kirberger rounding out the top five.

94-3487

In the Click Club USA Legends, another veteran racer shined as Tim Brockhouse outdueled Dirk Henry for the early lead and then held off the determined wheeler to earn his third victory of the season, with point leader Bryan Syer-Keske third, Pat Zandstra fourth and Brad Hartigan fifth.

The Dicks Sanitation Power Stocks saw Jennifer Cichy take the early lead over Brian Hennen, Matt Wiebusch, Chris Sjulstad and Paul Hamilton before a spinning Hennen brought out the caution five laps into the 20 lap affair. On the restart it was Wiebusch getting a great jump to take the94-3486 point from Cichy who then battled with Taylor Goldman for 94-3482runnerup honors until a 18th lap caution bunched the field up as Goldman and Josiah King tangled exiting turn two. On the restart, Wiebusch pulled away to the win, with Cichy earning a career best finish in second with Eric Campbell, Sjulstad and new point leader Dillon Sellner rounding out the top five.

Topping off the action were the Super Hornets and John Vandenheuvel edged out from Pat Wells and Aaron Hopkins for the early lead before Hopkins charged around Wells and Vandenheuvel to take the lead on lap three, before Wells spun on lap four to stall the action. On the restart, Hopkins bolted to the lead and over the final 11 laps never looked back as he scored his 8th win of the season, with point leader Zach Schelhaas second, Brandon Elmer third, Shawn Grabinger fourth and Norm Grabinger fifth.
