Elko, MN August 14, 2010--Elko's Daryl Blohm and Lakeville's Conrad Jorgenson split twin Thunder Car mains, while Webster's Tim Brockhouse roared to the win in the Click Club USA Challenge Series Legends 40 lap headliner to highlight the NASCAR Whelen All American Series action before rain and thunder halted the program Saturday August 14, 2010 at Elko Speedway.
Following a busy qualifying session and the ensuing heat races, the Genz Ryan Thunder Cars lined up for their first of two 25 lap mains and at the drop of the green, Conrad Jorgenson and Daryl Blohm bolted away from the field to battle for the point, with Scott King and Ted Reuvers working around Mike Homan to join the top four. As Blohm separated himself from Jorgenson to take the lead, Reuvers quickly dispatched King on lap two, with Jack Paulson and Brent Kane following suit on lap four. As Blohm extended his advantage, Reuvers reeled in Jorgenson for second on lap six, with Paulson moving to third by lap eight.
As the action remained "clean and green", Blohm's advantage continued to expand reaching 10 car lengths over Reuvers, but the fans were seeing another driver move into contention as Kane moved to the outside line to catch and pass Jorgenson and then Paulson to move to third at the midpoint. Over the final 13 laps, the fans were treated to a determined run as Kane reeled in Reuvers for second on lap 20, before moving alongside of Blohm as the white flag flew. Over the final circuit, the tandem traded the lead before Blohm edged Kane by a bumper to earn the win, with Reuvers, Paulson and Jorgenson rounding out the top five.
In the second 25 lapper, Jorgenson and Blohm again battle for the early lead, with Jorgenson taking the point the second time around, with Brent Kane and Jack Paulson moving quickly into the top five. This time, Jorgenson would be the one opening up the distance between himself and his pursuers as he cleared the field by a full straightaway as Kane moved around Blohm to second, but Mother Nature had other ideas and with rain and lightning soaking the drivers and fans, the action was called complete with Jorgenson earning the win over Kane, Blohm, Paulson and Reuvers.
Prior to the rain, the Click Club USA Legends had a special 40 lap Race against Hunger special and Max McNamara and Jon Lemke jumped around Shon Jacobsen for the early lead, with Jacobsen returning the favor to Lemke on lap four, with Tim Brockhouse and Dirk Henry joining the top five. As McNamara continued to show the way, Henry and Brockhouse worked around Lemke, with Ryan Johnson also on the move before the caution flew on lap 9 for a spinning Luke Hommerding. On the restart, McNamara again took the lead, but Brockhouse and Lemke charged by Jacobsen, with Brockhouse overtaking McNamara on lap 11 for the lead.
Once at the point, with the racing void of cautions, Brockhouse used his veteran savvy and lapped traffic to pull away to the popular victory, with Jacobsen second, McNamara third, Bryan Syer-Keske fourth and Lemke fifth.
In the Dicks Sanitation Power Stocks, the action was halted on the opening circuit as Brian Hennen and Dan Bohnsack collected each other in turn three to force a complete restart. When the green flew for a second time, Jennifer "Bubba" Cichy took the early lead over Paul Hamilton and Eric Campbell and continued to set the pace for five circuits before Hamilton moved to the outside for the point, with Dillon Sellner charging around Campbell for third on lap six. It was Sellner who would make the quickest charge as he overtook Cichy for second on lap seven, before tracking down Hamilton on lap nine. Once in the lead, Sellner would lead the field through a caution on lap 15 and was looking to end a two year feature winless streak. On the ensuing restart, Sellner again took the point as Campbell, Rob Schnickels and Josiah King moved by Hamilton and into the top five before the caution flew on lap 17 as Sellner went around in turn two, ending his night in a cloud of dust and frustration. On the final restart, Campbell roared to the lead and the win, with King holding back Schnickels for second, with Jason Novak fourth and Chris Sjulstad fifth.
The Super Hornets had a great battle in their 15 lap main as Shakopee's Kevin Anderson and Burnsville's Aaron Hopkins battled high and low for the lead, with Hopkins taking the point on lap four. Once in the lead, Hopkins kept Anderson at bay and watched as Zack Schelhaas and Brandon Elmer bumped and banged trading third and fourth, but in the end Hopkins earned his sixth win of the season, with Anderson second, Schelhaas third, Elmer fourth and Norm Grabinger fifth.
With the rain, the only action of the night for the NASCAR Super Late Models and Big 8 Sportsman were qualifying and Heat races and New Germany's Matt Goede topped Super Late Model qualifying (13.831 seconds) and the 15 lap Semi Feature, while Prior Lake's Doug Brown topped qualifying (14.739 seconds) and Nick Barstad earned the 12 lap Heat win for the Big 8 cars.
