"OUR KIDS have so much fun coming to Elko Speedway for EVE OF DESTRUCTION. We love it!"
—Mary, Minneapolis
Elko, MN April 25, 2009--Dundas' Donny Reuvers and New Prague's Nick Crawford used similar paths in earning trips to victory lane Saturday April 25th at Elko Speedway as the duo led the NASCAR
Whelen All American Series winners parade, capturing the NASCAR Super Late Model and Big 8 Sportsman features respectively! Both drivers parlayed their divisional qualifying success (Reuvers 2nd and Crawford 3rd) into semi-feature victories setting the stage for the nightly feature races.
In the 40 lap headliner for the NASCAR Super Late Models, New Market's "Racin Jason" Schneider powered his Cedar View Electric Chevrolet to the lead, maintaining the point through lap nine when Farmington's Jake Ryan reeled in the leader, with the tandem trading the point over the next five laps before Ryan settled into the lead. As the action remained caution free, Reuvers began to mount a charge, overtaking Schneider for runnerup honors on lap 21 before tracking down Ryan for the lead six laps later. Over the final 13 laps, Reuvers pulled away for his second victory of 2009, with Ryan second, New Germany's Matt Goede third after working around Schneider on lap 29, with Schneider and Lakeville's Joey Miller rounding out the top five.
In the Big 8 Sportsman feature, Apple Valley's Adam Bendzick looked to be the class of the field leading the first 14 laps, but as the crossed flags signaled the midpoint, New Prague's Nick Crawford completed a remarkable charge from his eighth starting position to overtake Bendzick. The pair
played a game of cat and mouse for the next few laps, before Crawford established himself as the leader, driving his Crawford's BP/Integra Telecom/Midwest Cryogenics Chevy deep into the turns to hold back the fast closing Doug Brown of Prior Lake and Justin Neisius of Eagan enroute to a very popular win.
In the Thunder Cars, Elko's Daryl Bloom proved his heat race win was no fluke as he drove away from Lonsdale's Brent Kane for the early lead and then, despite two late race cautions held on for a comfortable win and a "clean sweep" of the action, with Lakeville's Chris Marek overtaking Dundas' Ted Reuvers for runnerup honors.
In the Great North Legends, Prior Lake's Jaycen Brockhouse was not to be denied as he followed up his heat race win by sweeping by Lakeville's Gene Traxler enroute to the win with Belle Plaine's Dillon Boggess collecting his first career top three finish at Elko.
The Power Stocks saw and felt the return of St. Paul's Tom Doten who battled high and low with Elko's Rob Schnickels for the feature race lead, with Schnickels able to wrestle the lead away 8 laps into the 20 lapper. As Schnickels continued to ride point, heat race winner Craig Bennett of Blaine roared under Doten but second would be as far as he would advance as Schnickels drove away to the impressive win.
Topping off the action, the Super Hornets buzzed their way to great side by side action with defending divisional champion Jason Trnka of Montgomery leading wire to wire for the victory, with Burnsville's Aaron Hopkins second and Medford's Shawn Grabinger third.
The NASCAR Whelen All American Series action continues on Saturday May 2, 2009 with SIX divisions of action with spectator gates opening at 5p, qualifying at 6p and green flag action at 7p followed by LIVE post race music with Hairball.
