Goede Roars to 1st Elko Win

Attention: open in a new window.

By Jim Burns

Elko, MN April 11--New Germany's Mathew Goede took a huge step forward in his young racing career Saturday April 11, 2008 at Elko Speedway as he overtook race leader "Racin Jason" Schneider for the lead on a 35th lap restart and then held off "Dundas Donny" Reuvers to score his first career NASCAR Super Late Model win highlighting a second attempt at the 2009 season opener!

Goede and Schneider led the 17 starters to the green, with 2 time Elko titleist Schneider settling into the lead with Goede his lead pursuer for the first 11 laps before the first caution flew as fluids leaked from Brian Roach's mount. On the ensuing drop of the green, Schneider and Goede took turns at the point until "Racin Jason" settled in to the lead, with Adam Royle, Nick Panitzke and a fast closing Donny Reuvers trying to track down the lead tandem. It would take debris on the track at lap 34 to close up the field for a late race battle and when the final green flew, Goede showed his colors roaring by Schneider enroute to a four car length win, with Reuvers bypassing Schneider for runner up honors on lap 38.

In the Big 8 Sportsman ranks, Elko's Tom Kamish and Apple Valley's Adam Bendzick put each other through their paces in early action, with Kamish holding the point for the first 7 markers before Prior doug_brownLake's Doug Brown and Lakeville's Kevin Lutz slipped under the lead tandem on lap 8 as the leaders came in contact. Over the final 22 laps, Lutz tried every trick he could muster but Brown had the horses to hold on for the win, with Bendzick fighting his way back to third.

Thunder Car action saw the field need two attempts to go green as Faribault's Jack Paulson and Lakeville's Scott King tangled in turn three on the opening charge to bring out a complete restart. When the green flew a second time, Lonsdale's Brent "the Freightrain" Kane took off from the field only to be caught by Lakeville's Chris Marek who put tons of pressure on Kane, who held off the advances to score the win, with Elko's Daryl Blohm making a late charge by Marek for second.

In the Power Stocks, Farmington's Dillon Sellner was looking to back up his early evening Heat win and for the first 10 laps, Sellner had control before Elko's Greg Lamont roared by 10 laps into the 20 lapper and once at the point, Lamont cruised to an impressive win, with Jordan's Luke Schmitt and Elko's Rob Schnickels charging home in the top three.

The Great North Legends paid homage to the late Tom Silver on their parade lap before going under the green with Prior Lake's Jaycen Brockhouse tracking down early leader Dillon Boggess for the lead and then held off his Dad Tim Brockhouse for the win, with St. Michael's Michael Dick third.

411_6052_46Topping off the action were the Super Hornets and Lonsdale's Jeremy Brainerd chased down early leader Brandon Peterson of Faribault on lap 5, before having the tables turned on him with 2 to go, as Lakeville's Richard Thake powered by for the win to complete a clean sweep.
